Everything You Need to Know About Living in the City of Seminole

When you think about moving to the Tampa Bay area of Florida, the cities of Tampa, St Petersburg, or Clearwater Beach likely come to mind. However, if you’re looking for the perfect suburban town to call home that’s close to the beaches, but not too far away from where you work, the City of Seminole is a place you’ll want to have on your radar.

Located in Pinellas County, FL, the Greater Seminole Area is comprised of about 20 square miles and currently has a population of approximately 100,000 people. Residents in this wonderful little town will boast about its close proximity to some of the state’s BEST beaches, low property tax rates compared to other nearby municipalities, plus beautiful parks and some of the top schools in the County.

So let’s get started on why living in or moving to Seminole might be one of the best choices you’ll ever make…

  • Seminole is Close to the Gulf Beaches- Located just minutes from Redington Beach, Indian Rocks Beach & Indian Shores, and Madeira Beach, this town is the perfect place to call home if you’d like to be close to white, sandy beaches with gentle waves (aka perfect for swimming), the Gulf of Mexico, and endless sunsets. If you love boating, you can also find prime waterfront homes in Seminole in Neighborhoods such as Oakhurst Shores and Bay Haven. These neighborhoods offer waterfront homes on the Intracoastal Waterway, meaning the Gulf of Mexico is just a short boat ride away (think 20 minutes or less for most homes). Don’t need a waterfront home, but want to be close to the beach? You’ll love living just over the Park Blvd Bridge or the Tom Stuart Causeway, where residents can literally bike or walk to the beach with fabulous views along the way from the pedestrian paths on the bridges.

  • Seminole Has Some of the Lowest Property Taxes in Pinellas County- Boasting an unchanged millage rate for over a decade, residents of Seminole pay some of the lowest property taxes in Pinellas County. For example, the millage rate (property tax rate) in Seminole is currently $2.48 per thousand dollars of assessed value. Comparatively, the millage rate in the City of St Petersburg is $6.76 per thousand dollars of assessed value. Once you add in the County assessments, most residents of Seminole are paying 25% LESS in property taxes (or more) than residents of other popular nearby cities.

  • Seminole is Full of Beautiful Parks and Green Space- Love the outdoors? In addition to the nearby beaches, residents of Seminole enjoy many beautiful parks and playgrounds, full of bike trails, pedestrian paths, lakes and ponds. It’s truly an outdoor enthusiasts paradise! Notable parks you’ll want to check out include Lake Seminole Park (think boat ramps, fishing, picnics, walking trails, playgrounds and more!), Boca Ciega Millenium Park (fishing, canoe/kayak launch, observation tower, playgrounds, 5 ponds, and more!), Seminole City Park (beautiful duck pond, large playground, picnic areas, easy access to Pinellas trail, and more).

  • The Seminole Real Estate Market is HOT- While not as high priced as some of its neighboring beach communities, Seminole is a great place to buy a home! As of 2021, the median home in Seminole sells in about 7 days and for 100% of the original list price, but buyers LOVE that this little town is the perfect place to find 3 and 3 bedroom homes, 55+ condo communities, and townhouses that are close to the beaches, top-rated schools, shopping and more! The median sale price of a single-family home in Seminole is currently about $388,500. Homes here often start in the $200k range for the smallest single-family homes and climb to well over $1.4M for the largest waterfront homes.
